Gwyneth Paltrow’s kids might just be her biggest fans – and not because she’s an Oscar-winning actress or wellness mogul, but because of the way she and ex-husband Chris Martin raised them. The Goop founder recently opened up about her unique parenting style, and it turns out, Apple, 20, and Moses, 19, admire the unconventional path she and Chris have taken.
In an interview with E! News airing May 12, Gwyneth explained that her children are genuinely proud of how she and Chris have lived their lives. “They are very proud of the iconoclastic approach that we have taken in the past,” she said. “Looking back, there are always things that we used to write about [at Goop] where people were like, ‘Oh my gosh, what is this?’ And now they’re so mainstream.”
The kale smoothies and infrared saunas that once raised eyebrows have since become part of the wellness mainstream, and Gwyneth shared that her kids are fully on board with it all. “My kids are really proud of the fact that we’re always kind of first in this space,” she said, acknowledging that their unconventional lifestyle is now widely accepted.
When it comes to parenting, Gwyneth said she and Chris took a balanced approach – a mix of structure with plenty of freedom. “We try to always strike a balance,” she explained. “For me, manners are super important. So, that was kind of the structure: manners and education. I want a lot of expression and individuality, and freedom running through that structure. So, that’s kind of how we looked at it.”
It seems that balance is paying off. Gwyneth suspects that Apple and Moses are both destined for creative careers, just like their famous parents. “They are artist souls,” she said with pride. “I do think that [a] mix of structure and art is coming through in who they are now. They’re both academic, and yet they have these beautiful free spirits, and I think they will pursue art, which I think is wonderful.”
It’s clear that Gwyneth’s approach to parenting, with a healthy dose of creativity and individuality, is shaping the next generation of the Martin-Paltrow family in exciting ways. And it looks like her kids are on track to continue making their mark on the world, just as their mum did before them.
