Justin Bieber has landed himself in hot water once again after sharing a series of photos on Instagram that appear to show him smoking from a bong. The 31-year-old singer posted the snaps on Monday, March 3, and it didn’t take long for fans to react—some expressing disappointment, while others jumped to his defense.
Many were quick to criticise the singer, particularly as he’s recently become a father. One fan didn’t hold back, commenting, “@justinbieber you’re a new father, something you’ve wanted. Set a better example for your son.” Another added, “I hope Jack doesn’t have to be around all this smoke. A kid doesn’t deserve it.”
However, not everyone saw it as a big deal. Some fans pointed out that plenty of people smoke, and Bieber shouldn’t be held to different standards just because he’s famous. One person wrote, “Why does it surprise y’all to see a celebrity smoke like 75% of the world does… he’s obviously not doing it in front of his son.” Another supporter added, “I love when you’re just being you.”
This isn’t the first time the Baby singer has faced scrutiny over his behaviour. Just last month, his team shut down rumours that he was using drugs again, calling the speculation “exhausting and pitiful.” They insisted that Bieber has been going through a “very transformative” year, focusing on his health, music, and being there for his wife Hailey and their six-month-old son, Jack.
Bieber has previously been open about his struggles with substance abuse. In a 2021 interview with GQ, he admitted that fame had taken its toll on him from a young age, leading him to start using “heavy drugs” at just 19. He also revealed that at his lowest point, his security team would check his pulse at night to make sure he was still breathing.
While his latest Instagram post has stirred up debate, it’s clear that opinions remain split. Some fans see it as a harmless moment, while others worry about the image he’s portraying as a new father. Whether Bieber will respond to the backlash remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure—he’s no stranger to controversy.
