The chief medical advisor to the White House and the nation’s leading infectious disease expert has been accused of profiteering off the US coronavirus vaccine rollout.
The accusation comes from an environmental lawyer and vaccine critic Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and according to Kennedy, Dr. Anthony Fauci has a financial stake in the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, which would garner him profits as the vaccine is sold.
Kennedy dropped the accusations in an interview with NewsGuard, and said that Fauci “owns half the patent for the Moderna vaccine and will get royalties on it.”
In response to these accusations, Dr. Fauci told Newsweek, “That’s completely and totally incorrect. I don’t have any idea why he said that but I can tell you that it’s absolutely, unequivocally and completely incorrect.”
According to NewsGuard fact-checkers, Kennedy made several exaggerated claims about the development of both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine and that there is no evidence that Dr. Fauci owns any financial stake in the Moderna vaccine.
