A North Carolina man has been charged with first-degree murder following the tragic death of Heather Williams, a 25-year-old woman who was reported missing before her body was discovered in a wooded area. Heather Williams, of Fayetteville, was last seen on her family’s Ring camera on Saturday, Jan. 4. According to the Fayetteville Police Department, the footage showed her leaving home and getting into a light-colored sedan with a sunroof around 10 p.m. Her family said they did not recognize the car or its driver, reported PEOPLE.

Williams was considered endangered due to a cognitive impairment and limited speech resulting from a 2015 car accident, WRAL reported. Six days after her disappearance, on Friday, Jan. 10, police found Williams’ body in a wooded area.

On Thursday, Jan. 16, Fayetteville Police announced the arrest of Tyrell Siermons, 30, in connection with Williams’ death and disappearance. He has been charged with first-degree murder. Authorities tracked Siermons through the car seen picking Williams up, according to Fox News.

Details about how Williams and Siermons knew each other or how they came into contact have not been disclosed. Police have not confirmed whether Siermons is the person Williams was allegedly texting before her disappearance.

Siermons has an extensive criminal history, according to Cumberland County court records. On the same day he was charged with Williams’ murder, he was also charged with an out-of-state probation violation. Siermons is currently being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center. It is unclear if he has obtained legal representation.

The tragic circumstances surrounding Heather Williams’ death have left the community in shock. Her family has yet to release a statement, and police continue to investigate the events leading up to her disappearance. As the investigation unfolds, Williams’ story serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity and supporting vulnerable individuals.
