Dr. Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, said the current COVID situation in the US is ‘not a good place to be’.
Despite new COVID-19 cases dropping significantly across the country, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert has put out a new warning regarding a possible coming surge.
According to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the chief medical advisor to the White House, the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic that the US is in is “not a good place to be”.
Dr. Fauci dropped this warning last Friday during an interview with MSNBC, where he said that people need to “hang in there a bit longer”, referencing the public health measures that have been in place for many months now.
Dr. Fauci says that the fact that new daily cases are seemingly plateauing between the 50,000 to 60,000 range is a bad sign. Here’s what Dr. Fauci said, “Remember we had the big peak. And then it came down at a really good rate and then it started to plateau which I said weeks ago was a bad sign.
Instead of continuing to go down at a sharp line, it’s plateaued. Once it’s done that, there’s a high risk that you’re going to get another resurgence.”
The infectious disease expert then said that we have seen this kind of COVID-19 action with previous surges that the country has experienced. “We’ve seen that with previous surges. The other three that we’ve had in this country.”
