Man, 19, arrested after teenage squaddie ‘abducted and attacked on Tinder date’

A teenager has been arrested after a solider claims he was attacked while on a Tinder date.

Cobhan Mclelland is currently in hospital where he is being treated for injuries he said he sustained after meeting up with a woman at an Edinburgh property.

The 18-year-old claims he was abducted and attacked.

Dylan Rigby, 19, has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged incident, Daily Record reports.

Cobhan who is in the armed forces and living at the Dreghorn Barracks in Colinton, was allegedly attacked in the early hours of Sunday morning.

His family say they received a phone on Sunday morning to say that the soldier had been taken to hospital.

Cobhan, who is understood to originally be from Doncaster, joined the military at the age of 16, turning 18 in January.

Rigby appeared in court on Monday charged with abduction, assault to severe injury, danger of life and attempted murder.

He also faced a culpable and reckless conduct charge along with charges under the police and fire reform (Scotland) act, the criminal justice and licensing (Scotland) Act and the Criminal Law (consolidation) (Scotland) Act.

Rigby made no plea or declaration, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He is expected to appear again within eight days.

A source close to Dreghorn Barracks said fellow servicemen and women were told of the alleged attack during a meeting at the army base on Monday.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence confirmed to Edinburgh Live that the teenager was taken to hospital after an incident at an Edinburgh property and that police are investigating.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to an address in Kidlaw Close, Edinburgh, at around 6.05am on Sunday, 21 March following a disturbance within a property.

“Specialist officers attended and the incident was concluded safely at around 8.05am.

“A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital after being assaulted, and a second man, also aged 19, has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

“He was due to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, 22 March, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
