COVID pandemic ’emergency’ alarm sounded, coming ‘disaster’ on horizon

Dr. Osterholm, a renowned epidemiologist, has warned that there is an ‘approaching disaster’ with the COVID-19 pandemic in the US.

One of the world’s most renowned epidemiologists has warned that there is an “approaching disaster” with the COVID-19 pandemic and that we “need to go into an emergency mode”.

The warning has come from Dr. Michael Osterholm, the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, who stated on his podcast this past Monday morning,

“We need to go into an emergency mode because of what is the approaching disaster with the B.1.1.7 variant”. The B.1.1.7 variant is more infectious, causes a more severe infection, and may be less effective against vaccines and treatments.

Dr. Osterholm continued, and explained that due to how much more infectious the B.1.1.7 variant is, the United States would need to reach 80% to 90% herd immunity, instead of the previously projected 75%. “There is no mistaking.

The approaching dark clouds are coming.” However, Dr. Osterholm referenced how the B.1.1.7 strain caused the UK to go into a lockdown in just two months. If you are interested in reading more about this story, and what Dr. Osterholm said,
