Singer Selena Gomez wanted to explore her “maturity, growth and future” with her Revival tour wardrobe. The 23-year-old embarked on her 80-date tour last month (May16), and has already dazzled thousands of fans with her stage costumes, as well as her stunning vocals. Now Selena’s fashion director, Christian Classen, has told Vogue.com all about the thought process behind the star’s designer tour wardrobe. “This tour is an exploration of who Selena Gomez is,” he said. “Her ups and her downs, and everything in between. The style is meant to show her maturity, growth, and future.”

Selena wears half a dozen outfits during her set, including creations from top designers like Rodarte and Karl Lagerfeld, who created a black leather suit for Selena. “When the email came through saying he was thrilled to take the project on, neither of us could believe it!” Christian recalled. Part of the brief the pair sent designers was to create clothing which wasn’t necessarily a stage costume, but more of an extension of Selena’s red carpet style. “The designers that we were and still are targeting are not typically conventional designers for stage, and I really dig that,” he explained. Footwear has also been carefully thought out, with the singer sporting killer heels and boots by Louis Vuitton and Fausto Puglisi.
“Selena feet are really put through the ringer,” Christian added, “(But Vuitton’s) Nicolas Ghesquiere designed these with so much comfort, without jeopardising any element of style.” As the tour progresses around the world, Selena and Christian plan to work with more designers and introduce new costumes to the show. “We have something in the works with The Row,” he teased. “They did the (black slip dress and trenchcoat) in the Kill Em With Kindness video and we’ve all been looking forward to working with them on a show piece. Stagewear can be chic. Fashion shows are a stage, after all!”
