She’s been known to go to painful extremes with her beauty regime, including a recent blood facial. And Kim Kardashian appears to be carrying on the trend, this time with acupuncture.
Although the traditional Chinese practice isn’t meant to feel physically uncomfortable, it certainly looked it in a picture that the 32-year-old tweeted of herself on Saturday. The pregnant reality star is seen closeup in the photo with multiple needles dotted all over her face, neck and ears.
Her face is, as always, fully made up, this time with thick black eyeliner and lashings of mascara coupled with a glossy rose lip colour. The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star accompanied the photo with the caption: ‘Oh so relaxing…’Â Acupuncture is recommended for pregnant women wishing to avoid traditional drugs to help ease symptoms such as morning sickness and stress. Perhaps Kim Kardashian, who is about five months into her pregnancy, was using the alternative medicine to treat any symptoms she may be experiencing.
But the star, who has vowed ‘never to get a facelift’, was more than likely using it to maintain her youthful glow as the needles were positioned all over her face, including her cheeks.
According to Colorado acupuncturist Martha Lucas, acupuncture is a good alternative for women who would rather avoid a surgical facelift. ‘Acupuncture is designed to free up chi, or energy,’ the doctor told WebMD. ‘When the needles –Â approximately 30-40 – are applied to the body and face, production of collagen and elastin may be stimulated,’ which results in the skin looking ‘plumped up.’
‘It helps your own body create a more youthful appearance,’ she added. The Kourtney And Kim Take Miami star is no stranger to experimenting with extreme – sometimes bizarre – beauty treatments. In a recent episode of her reality show, Kim was shown receiving a blood facial using her own blood. A large needle drew blood from her arm before being applied to Kim’s face using nine tiny little acupuncture-style needles.
Kim wailed during the painful procedure, claiming she would ‘never get a facelift if it felt like that.’ The star has been enjoying some down time after enduring a nine hour divorce deposition earlier this week.
