The Roar singer has teamed up with bosses at Hong Kong-based Global Brands Group to launch a footwear deal and she’s currently busy filming campaign ads, which will debut in January (17). Katy Perry who is in control of the promos, spent 10 hours one day last month just setting up the shoot, according to WWD.com, revealing to the website it will feature her in four wigs and a range of colorful costumes. And her vintage ride also features.
“It’s not like an editorial piece,” she says of the ad. “It’s something that I’ve created so I am a micro-manager, which is great, but everything kind of goes slow. I know time is money, but it’s a beginning of a relationship and I’m like, ‘You guys have to trust me’. It’s a little overwhelming but I get a lot done.” And she can’t wait for fans to get hold of her shoes next year (17), because they’ve been asking her to create something they can wear for years. “People would ask me, ‘Are you going to foray into fashion?'” she explains. “Music is always my root but I have creative branches, very female-based things I like in the marketplace, where I explore how to put my spin on it.
“I have a two-car garage full of shoes and my dream is to bring personality shoes to the marketplace at an affordable price for women 16 to 40 or beyond.” The collection is inspired by Katy Perry travels and her childhood – she has created pairs of cute Easter bunny flats which were modeled after a pair of Dalmatian shoes she found in a thrift store 15 years ago. She also used her own personal “gods” of shoes, Charlotte Olympia, Sophia Webster, and Kurt Geiger, as inspiration, stating, “I want to be like them, but with my own spin for a more accessible price point. “I am always conscious of my audience. At my shows, I could jack up the ticket price for my peers but I always have a price range available for that person who’s always been my fan. I didn’t grow up with any money and I was always getting by by the skin of my teeth, so affordable is just ingrained in me.”
