Taylor Swift and Harry Styles’ Compete at ARIA Awards

Shake It Off star Taylor and Story of My Life rockers One Direction are two of the names competing in the prestigious category at the Australian Recording Industry Association awards, which take place on 23 November (16) at The Star in Sydney, Australia. Justin Bieber, Adele, Beyonce, Drake, Meghan Trainor, Coldplay, The Weeknd and twenty one pilots will also battle it out for the gong, which is voted for by the Australian public. The nominations, released on Tuesday (04Oct16), were led by music producer Flume, real name Harley Streten. The Sydney-raised musician featured in 11 categories, including Best Male Artist – which he won in 2013 – and Album of the Year.taylor swift at aria awards

Singer-songwriter Troye Sivan received seven nominations, while Sia is up for six awards at the ceremony. Among those Sia will be competing for are Best Female Artist, Album of the Year and Best Pop Release for her record This Is Acting. Speaking previously about the record, Sia told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that it’s made up of all the songs she wrote for other artists but that were rejected. “This is just a bit of fun, you know?,” she smiled during an interview earlier this year (16). “It’s just a bit of fun, all the things we had lying around. It’s like… You know when you have a lot of stuff in the fridge and its about to go off and then you’re such a good chef that you can whip up something totally delicious out of it.”harry styles at aria awards

Other notable names nominated at this year’s ARIA Awards include Delta Goodrem, up for Best Video for her track Dear Life, and Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood, who will be competing for Apple Music Song of the Year for their song The Fighter. The ceremony will also see Crowded House inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association’s Hall of Fame, on the 30th anniversary of the band’s self-titled debut album. Crowded House join previous Hall of Fame inductees INXS, AC/DC, Kylie Minogue, the Bee Gees, and Men At Work. Founding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour will accept the induction on behalf of Paul Hester, who committed suicide in 2005, and his replacement Peter Jones, who lost his battle with brain cancer in 2012.
