Porsche Blames Paul Walker for His Own Death

Porsche has claimed that the late actor Paul Walker was responsible for his own death in the fatal crash of a 2005 Carrera GT. The crash happened in 2013 when the car, in which Walker was a passenger, hit a pole and burst into flames. Walker’s daughter Meadow filed a claim against Porsche in September alleging that the car company skimped on safety features for the vehicle. But Porsche claimed the actor “knowingly and voluntarily assumed all risk” of being a passenger in the car. The legal papers state that: “Mr Walker’s death, and all other injuries or damages claimed, were the result of Mr Walker’s own comparative fault.”

He [Walker] chose to conduct himself in a manner so as to expose himself to such perils, dangers and risks, thus assuming all the risks involved in using the vehicle. – Porsche

A police investigation in 2013 found that speed was the cause of the crash. The car was travelling at 94mph in a 45mph zone when the collision occurred. In April Porsche claimed that driver Rodger Rodas was to blame for the crash following a lawsuit filed by his widow last year. A representative of Walker’s daughter has responded to Porsche’s defence, saying “It is beyond regrettable that Porsche is trying to deflect its own responsibility by blaming the victim, Paul Walker, for his own death.”
